Evelyn Lozada is always having a fashion moment.

This season, the reality television star and author made her buzzed-about return to VH1’s “Basketball Wives,” the reality show she helped gain a cult following when it debuted in 2010.

And in true Evelyn-fashion (pun intended), she brought with her a mega ratings bump and a slew of looks that sent fans flocking to her Instagram comments section and Twitter page asking, “Where can I get that [insert clothing, footwear or accessory item here]?”

Lozada — who could arguably take credit for a resurgence in door knocker earrings due to her perennial larger-than-life hoops in Season 1 — has an infectious sense of style that is both relatable and aspirational to her fans and followers.

“I remember one time people were writing me like, ‘Oh my God, I love your boots, where can I get those?’” Lozada recalled when Footwear News caught up with her this week. “And I actually went on the internet and looked around and started finding boots and posted them. Because sometimes people don’t know where to go or how to look for [certain things].”  Read more

“You can’t just be a cute face. Everybody’s not cut out for this,” says Evelyn Lozada, crossing her ankles in Saint Laurent patent leather pumps. The TV personality is talking, of course, about her show Basketball Wives—the cult reality hit created by Shaunie O’Neal, Shaquille’s ex-wife, that follows a group of close “friends” who were all once engaged or married to various basketball players. Tonight, the show returns to VH1 for its sixth season, and, for the first time in five years, will reunite its original girl gang: Lozada, O’Neal, and Tami Roman. “They had to bring the OGs back—we have confidence and personality,” Lozada says matter-of-factly.

Of the three, Lozada remains the show’s MVP, thanks to her sharp tongue, but it’s her next-level accessories game that keeps us coming back. Each week, she pulls from a rotating lineup of designer bags and door-knocker diamond earrings, from custom five-inch hoops to multiple carat studs. “I have to always have some pair of earrings on every day,” she explains. “I could never [leave] the house without earrings. Who [leaves] the house without earrings?” That larger-than-life approach to fashion is contagious, too. “I actually ended up getting Shaunie a pair [of bamboo hoops] in the Bronx the other day, and even she said, I feel like I need them bigger.”

Yet Lozada’s best style tip lies in the witty way she mixes high and low pieces together: Tom Ford thigh-high boots and Asos chokers, or Louis Vuitton bags with Nike Air Force Ones. “It’s all about having fun,” she says. “The bling may not always be diamonds, but it can still be cute. I’ll mix anything: Cartier bracelets with Claire’s.”   Read more

Chris asked some great questions and I’m so thankful I got to share this piece of my journey with you guys.

Tip 1
Clean out your pantry to avoid temptation and clean up your eating habits. No fried foods, no sugar, no junk food, no processed foods… it can be tough but you can do it. Personally, I don’t eat really meat, however, for those of you that do… eat lean meats such as chicken, fish and whole grains and veggies. Definitely eat breakfast, as this is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast will actually do more harm than good. I always start with a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and youthH2O, a caffeine-free, age-defying solution made up of the most powerful super foods, which helps boost my metabolism and fight weight gain.

Tip 2
Eat every three to four hours; this will also help to speed up your metabolism. You need to consume five smaller meals instead of three large meals per day. Please do not skip meals as this will slow down your metabolism and your body will begin to store fat.

Tip 3
Attach a photo of your vacation destination and an image of whom you strive to look like as a constant reminder. Personally, I mentally have a picture of Beyonce and J-Lo in my head… I live for those bodies!

Tip 4
Lock up the liquor cabinet and increase your daily water intake. You should drink a minimum of eight cups of water per day.

Tip 5
GET TO THE GYM! It is important that you exercise properly. Personally, I start on the elliptical or treadmill. If you do not want to go to the gym, walking or jogging around your neighborhood or a high school track is just fine. I also do a bit of strength training with the weight machines.

If you stick to this, you are well on your way to looking fabulous for your vacation!

This is an older interview with JET Mag (did it close to Mother’s Day this year) and I just wanted to share. They asked great questions – we talked more about my experiences with miscarriages – and to see the whole thing, click here!

JET: Mother’s Day is this weekend, and for some who have experienced a similar loss it will be a difficult day. What words of encouragement do you have for those women?

Evelyn Lozada: One of the things that gave me peace is knowing that, first of all, God makes no mistakes. Secondly, there was clearly something wrong. We all want to have healthy children and if God is protecting me against an abnormality or something, then I’m fine with that. You just never know. Although my family was there for me; it’s something that stays with you forever.

I talk about it on the show. I’m open talking about it now because it’s a conversation that needs to take place because women do not talk about it. You feel like it’s my responsibility to bring a healthy child into the world, eat right, and take my vitamins. Then when you miscarry, you feel responsible. You have to realize it’s out of your control and it’s not your fault. There are so many that don’t even realize that they miscarried.

JET: Talk about your experience with the miscarriages, how did you know when they were taking place?

Evelyn Lozada: What’s ironic about this is, as soon as I started filming both seasons, I found out I was pregnant. Then, I had the miscarriages. With the first pregnancy, I went to the doctor and when they checked my hormone levels my numbers were in the normal range. The next time the numbers went down. That’s a sign that the pregnancy is not a viable one. My doctor also saw changes in the ultrasounds. My second pregnancy, it was the same exact thing. My hormone levels were low and the doctor knew right away that I was going to miscarry.

JET: Did you have any conditions that many women suffer from such as endometriosis or fibroids, for example?

Evelyn Lozada: I didn’t have any of those types of issues, so that’s why it was such a shock to me when I had those two miscarriages. I had a healthy pregnancy with my son Leo, and a wonderful delivery. Once you are 35 and over, every ovulation counts. Your body changes pretty quickly. I was healthy when I had Leo, but now I’m 40 and it’s going to continue to get harder and harder since I’m high risk. My doctor said I have a 5 % chance of getting pregnant naturally, but I plan to keep on trying.

JET: What else can we expect on the new season of “Livin’ Lozada?”

Evelyn Lozada: My daughter Shaniece started therapy on the show. She opens up about how my failed relationships and friendships have affected her life and why she’s so guarded. I think that can help others by her sharing. I mentored a young lady who is a teenage mom, and I’m excited because I saw myself in her. I was young when I had a baby, but I figured it out and it turned out great. This is really a great season.

JET: What do you hope that women watching your show this season will take away from your experience?

Evelyn Lozada: I want women to just understand that life is going to throw you all types of curves. Sometimes you aren’t in control of everything, just like with the miscarriages. I think for me, I just believe that I know I deserve better.

I want women to take away from my experiences that they can be strong. Women can see that life isn’t over after one or two bad things. They can look at me and see that I went through a domestic violence relationship and was divorced 43 days later. While it was so public, I still left and look at where my life is now. I’m just not one of those people to give up. I want them to know they can get through it just like I did.

How do you classify and define a best friend?

First and foremost, I have to be able to fully trust you a thousand percent to allow you into my space with my family. The friends who I call my best friend, I can count on one hand. I only have a few and they are generally trustworthy. What I’ve experienced throughout the years are friendships that you grow out of, things happen. I trust my girlfriends with anything I talk to them about. They have been really supportive of everything I have gone through. The ups. The downs. The good. The bad. That’s important to me.

What is your secret to staying sexy?

I am not going to front. I try my best to eat right. I work out three times a week. I feel like I should be doing more. I am 40 and things slow up and kinda fall … all that good stuff. I do need to be a bit more physical. Having a child after 22 years is fulfilling, and it’s a lot of work. I try balancing workouts, taking care of my son and my household, and filming. I do the simple things like eat right and try to get that cardio in.

Is Leo talking now?

Girl! He’s talking now and everything I say he repeats. I have to watch the sh–s and those words that slip out. He has a lot to say and he’s very opinionated, a very strong personality. I am not surprised. Carl has a very strong personality and so do I.

Who are your role models in the industry?

I really look up to Iyanla. She has been a great presence in my life. She’s always been consistent. Obviously, she’s the person who brought a lot of things to my attention and has helped me change to become a better person. We have a great relationship. Of course, I look up to Oprah and have to ask myself, “Am I having a conversation with her right now?” I am inspired.

Do you have a favorite Beyoncé song?

I am a huge Beyoncé fan. When the tickets went on sale for her upcoming concert, I had three computers going and knew I was going to make it to this concert. I can’t just pick one song. She’s another one that inspires me, as well as JLo [Jennifer Lopez]. These chicks are doing it. They have kids, look amazing and are strong, positive. I went to the JLo concert for my 40th birthday. It was my gift to myself.

Where do you find that you are most active when it comes to social media?

I am active on everything and have everything linked. When we started “Basketball Wives,” years ago, I had my Twitter. I love Instagram because I love to post pictures. I manage my own Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

So you actively interact with your fans on those platforms?

I try to respond to everyone and especially women who are reaching out and want to share. Recently, a woman was tweeting me about her struggles conceiving. I make it a point to share my personal struggles publicly because there are so many women having these same experiences and they never talk about them, whether they are in an abusive relationship or dealt with a miscarriage. I don’t know what it is but I feel a lot of women are embarrassed to talk about it. I want to share my story and help them go through the process.

I was looking at my Instagram after an episode and one woman left a long message on my page. She shared her gratitude and that she was in an abusive relationship where she lost all her back teeth. Her boyfriend gouged them out with an instrument. I started following her and really connected with her. I wanted to help her. I talked with my dentist and we flew her in. She had no idea what our plans were. She thought she was coming to hang out with me. We surprised her and literally fixed her entire mouth. It made her day. She was happy and confident. It was one of the greatest moments of my life.

This has been such a wonderful interview. You were really open. Thank you.

I am an open book. I am always transparent. I think that’s why OWN wanted to do a show with me on my life [and] based on my interview with Iyanla [Vanzant]. I will say this, I had other offers to do other shows but I was like no, no, no. When this opportunity came, it felt like [the] right fit [considering] where my life is. I am very protective of my family and my kids. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something positive. I will never forget Iyanla saying, “Why don’t you use this platform to do something positive for a change?” I thought to myself, “How can I do something positive on the show that I am on?” I will never in life knock anything that I’ve done. All my actions and where I was at that time [in life] led me to where I am today. I have no regrets. I will say, I decided to do the show because I wanted to add positivity to the world. That’s been my main focus in doing this docu-series on my life.
